My sister Katie graduated from BYU-Idaho last Friday night (18th), which also happened to be the night of the full moon. I took advantage of the drive home by stopping by the dam on Palisades and taking a few photos. My sister was with me and it was late (after midnight) so I wasn’t able to stay as long as I would have liked to have and gotten the exposures I wanted, but it was still fun to take a few moonlight photos. Photos were taken between midnight and One o’clock with an Olympus E-3 DSLR. The shots are around a eight to fifteen minute exposures. Moonlight photography is something that really needs a lot of practice to know what the proper exposures should be, so if you are interested in it my best advise is just get a good tripod and get out and practice.

Great shot, thank you for sharing. The coloring is exceptional.
I want to say shenanigans on these “night shots” so bad. They look like they were taken in BROAD DAYLIGHT. wtf.
I have to say I am very impressed and inspired by your blog. I hadn’t realized that you could get that kind of color during the night from the moon but it makes sense if I think about it for a bit. It is also inspiring that you take photos everyday. I would like to do the same but have a hard time getting myself to carry around my camera with me everyday.
Hey can I use this picture for my book?
