Today I went to the Teton Dam (what’s left of it) and took some photos. This is an HDR of a most beautiful sunset.

October 18th Weekend
My friend Bernt Jenkins came home to Star Valley over the weekend, bringing two very kind Russian friends of his with him. I went home to see them and to do a few other things too (namely get out of Rexburg for the weekend). We went on a dirt bike ride in the morning and the girls got pretty muddy—but they had a lot of fun. We then went to Jackson Hole and to Jenny Lake. On Sunday I had my birthday meal with the extended family (a tradition we’ve had in our family for as long as I can remember). Turned out to be a great weekend.

Crazy Weather the Past Few Days
Although some may hate rain and bad weather, I know of two groups of people that love it. Farmers (if they have their hay in, as we do), and photographers. Although I am not much of a photographer, I have tried to make the most of it. here are just a few shots I was able to take. Most are from today, one is from last night.

More Moonlight Photography
My sister Katie graduated from BYU-Idaho last Friday night (18th), which also happened to be the night of the full moon. I took advantage of the drive home by stopping by the dam on Palisades and taking a few photos. My sister was with me and it was late (after midnight) so I wasn’t able to stay as long as I would have liked to have and gotten the exposures I wanted, but it was still fun to take a few moonlight photos. Photos were taken between midnight and One o’clock with an Olympus E-3 DSLR. The shots are around a eight to fifteen minute exposures. Moonlight photography is something that really needs a lot of practice to know what the proper exposures should be, so if you are interested in it my best advise is just get a good tripod and get out and practice.

Caribou Mountain Camp-out & Bike Ride
Last Friday and Saturday I was able to go camping up Caribou Mountain with some of local church kids and leaders. I was asked to go because the main point of the activity was to go on a dirt-bike ride, and I know the area we went to very well. It was the first time I had been up there this year; the area fascinates me both because of the beauty and the historical importance of the old gold mine ghost town. It was also fun being with my little bro and friends. Update: Carson also wrote a write-up on the ride; if you want more information feel free to check it out here.

Summer Life Photos
Summer is in full swing, and I thought I’d post just a few things (through photos) that have happened the past week. We had a nice lightning storm, but unfortunately by the time I got ready I was only able to catch the tale end of it. Yesterday did pulled a calf, and unfortunately the calf did not make it. Today I went to Idaho Falls then to Rexburg. It felt weierd being on campus during the summer, but it was nice seeing some people I haven’t seen for a while. Then on the way home I took some photos at the Palisaids Power Plant, but I was a little early for the light I wanted.

Lazy Summer Evenings…
Summer evenings can seem nice and relaxing–at least untill farming starts again. But in the meantime, I’ve been enjoying the beautiful Star Valley summer evenings. Here’s just a few photos for those of you who have been wondering just how nice it really is. I would have loved to have camped out tonight and taken some beautiful shots as it got darker and darker; especially with the bright moon, but the mosquitos were so thick that I quickly gave up and just kept driving. Hopefully they won’t last long this year… (more…)

Bald Eagle & Strawberry Canyon (low light)
Yesterday I had the opportunity to take some photos of a very beautiful Bald Eagle that is nesting very close to home. Then this evening I went up Strawberry Canyon, of Bedford Wy in Star Valley, and took some evening to night shots. The shots range from a second to sixty seconds.

Evening Photos
I spent some time two nights ago and took some more shots for all you who were wanting some more valley shots. Farming started the day after, so I decided to take the opportunity while I had it. Click the “read the rest of this entry” link to see the gallery. (more…)
